Tenant Participation Projects - Maximising Involvement

CAT has a good track record of delivering high levels of tenant and resident involvement in many projects.
The Harlow Tenant Participation Compact
In Harlow, Essex, CAT worked with a Tenant Steering Group to survey 12,000 council tenants about improvements to services and 2,400 written responses were received, with hundreds of suggestions about improvements that tenants wished to see.
These suggestions were distilled into 60 Recommendations that were included in the Tenant Participation Compact, which was signed up to by the Council.
The Newham Tenant’s Group
In Newham, Family Housing Association (now Mosaic Housing Association) had 1,100 tenants but no locally-based Tenant Participation Structure.
Working with a Tenant Steering Group, CAT helped to set up a fully constituted, independent Newham Tenant’s Group, which reflected the amazing diversity of tenants across the borough.
The Tenant’s Group produced its’ own Service Improvement Plan, with 34 Recommendations, most of which are currently being implemented by the landlord.
CAT also produced a map of sites in Newham for IT training, employment training, Business advice and ESOL classes, with information translated into four community languages. These were sent to 1,100 tenants of Family Housing Association.
Tenant Participation Officer Alma Haq said: “CAT worked with FHA on our Diversity Strategy. Their approach has been professional, flexible and creative. We have no reservations in recommending them for work”.
